Twiight Toasts is an evening adult gathering in the Conservatory, with live music, light hors d'oeuvres and a wine tasting from Gosford Wine. Our horticultural segment this time will be an herb tasting, looking at fresh herbs and tasting herbed butters and oils on fresh bread from Big City Bread. Mmm...yum! The first annual T.R.R. Cobb Summer Author's Series, features three lectures from nationally-known scholars. This year's theme is Southern Women's History.July 12: Sarah E. Gardner of Mercer University in Macon, GA will present a lecture on her recent book entitled, Blood and Irony: Southern White Women's Narratives of the Civil War, 1861-1937. Sarah's work examines the importance of stories to Southern culture, as well as the importance of women in shaping not only the memory of the Civil War, but of postbellum Southern identity as well. July 29: Squat an Atlanta & Athens based jazz band uses instrumental pieces infused with a blend of sounds ranging from Afro-Cuban to blues to hip-hop. August 26: Hope for Agoldensummer w/Jean Spencer. Pull out your poodle skirts and saddle oxfords for September! Downtown velcomes back the Georgia Classic Cruisers for the ageless Rock and Roll Cruise-In on September 20. A live band will perform favorites from the 1950's and '60s as more than 100 classic cars line the streets of downtown Greensboro.
